I felt like doing some light painting tonight so my friend Andrew and I went up the canyon to a tunnel he knew of. We did a couple burns in there and I got a couple pictures but I didn't feel like I was getting what I wanted. So we went up top and drove down the road a little way and did some burns and light painting on the road. After doing a couple burns we decided to use lights. Andrew had this crazy bright light that was able to focus the beam of light so we started experimenting and came up with a great image I think. I love light painting and it is even more great with other creative people. You can come up with all kinds of awesomeness and share all of your cool toys too. We also got to help a couple who got themselves stuck in the snow. Karma points!

So I won a GoPro Hero 3 not long ago and I decided that is all I would use on my trip to Sundance. I was too busy snowboarding to really make any pictures except on the 10 minute lift ride so I didn't get a whole lot but here are my two favorites and a time-lapse of the long lift ride.

What a week! Nothing seemed to work out at all. I tried to do a portrait session but it fell through twice so I tried to get out to do some light painting but the weather stopped me. A while back I did some abstract work with glow stick fluid (here) so I decided to try that again and it turned out awful so I lit my cactus garden with a bunch of light sticks and took a long exposure and the results were eh. What to do? Well I wanted a new profile photo for facebook and such so that is this weeks shoot, my ugly face! Next week will be better I promise! Light painting Monday hopefully and Tuesday/Wednesday snowboarding should give me plenty of opportunity to make a good picture and shoot some video with my GoPro! Until next week, stay awesome.

Yesterday I realized I did a shoot every week of January. It also made me realize that I really didn't shoot enough last year, way less than I wanted and felt like I should be anyway so I decided to make a goal to keep this trend going through the rest of the year! One shoot a week all year. Part of me feels this is more than I can do but I have two days off a week and I rarely do much with them so using one for photography should be doable right? Once it warms up and the snow melts I will want to go out more too so that will help. The only way to get better at something is to practice it and challenge yourself. This will definitely be a challenge but I know it will help me get better and grow which is something I have felt like I have been lacking. So lets blow this goal out of the water!
Here is last nights adventure. I walked (about 6 miles total) to three different places that I had picked out before I left. The old gas station on 100 South +Mike Johnson and I have been talking about shooting at, the Temple, and the park down the street from my apartment. The night kind of felt like a bust to me. I can't say I am not super crazy about any of the images but that is how it goes sometimes. Here are my favorites though. Enjoy.... maybe.
