Ang got some dance stuff for Christmas so we went out and worked on the dance series. Pioneer park is a great place to shoot. I have done some light painting there. It has a lot of potential for landscape, nature, portraiture, and light painting.

Carp and Snow

So it snowed like crazy here last week. St George received the 3rd most snow in its history, and I thought I moved away from it.. I went out into it and ended up playing with my cameras slow motion video setting instead of making photos but I did make one of the Carousel. So here is that photo and some slow motion video which between you and me I am not too impressed with the quality of it but it is still kind of cool. On another note over Thanksgiving we went down to the lake to feed the carp and I took my Gopro. The carp are fun too feed and I wanted to shoot some photos of them. I mounted my camera on the end of a square dowel and set it down into the carp as they were eating all the stale leftovers we had. This has been something I have been wanting to do for a while. My first time was a failure this time turned out better. I think I will try again soon. You cannot swim in the marina so to do better I think I need a longer stick. Anyway check out the carp photos below.

Not long ago my wife and I decide to do a project together that would give us opportunity to get better at something we each wanted to improve in (photography and dance) and the project that came about was a dance series. It is still young and will hopefully get better with time as we both learn and grow. We will keep doing this so keep checking back. Here are the latest in the series.

Angie and I went camping near Zion National Park last weekend. We went up to see Grafton and to do some light painting in the ghost town but ended up hiking in Zion all day instead. The colors were changing and the weather was beautiful. Perfect for making pictures.

It has been busy here the last few weeks. Between exploring lava tubes at Snow Canyon and hiking the mesa rim in the Red Cliffs Desert Preserve, I have only had time for touch and go shooting. On top of that we don't have internet yet. But I have made a few pictures. I even went light paining. This area is full of potential projects I just need to get organized an get shooting.

Things have changed these past six months. I am getting married! and moving to Saint George, and I have a new Nikon 1 J2. While I haven't had too much time to shoot, the time I have had has been good. It is nice to have someone around to help and be creative with and to model heh. I can't wait to get some new projects going and start light painting in Saint George and Zion National Park.

The Pet Cemetery

Taken with my GoPro Hero 3
Not far from Boulder City, off Highway 95 lies the Pet Cemetery. The Pet Cemetery is a place where people from the area have buried their pets since the 1950s (as far as I can tell from grave marker dates). Someone decided to start burring pets in this patch of desert and it has been the place to lay your pet to rest ever since. This isn't an official cemetery mind you, it is just one of those strange places you find hidden away in the desert. The most recent marker we found was from 2012. I had been there before as a kid and thought the city had removed it when they widened the highway but my dad told me it was still there so Angie and I decided to go looking for it while we were visiting last week. Well we found it. There are hundreds of graves. Some marked with crosses, some tombs made of cinder block and bricks, some pilled high with toys and stuffed animals, and some dug up by animals or washed away by rain. It is a weird, surreal, creepy place and to be honest it is pretty awesome. How this place started I don't know yet but I am going to start doing some research on it I think and maybe do some photo projects there as well (sshhh, ghostly light painting).

I have been MIA for a while but I went back to Nevada for a week and I have a few photos to work! On the way home from the airport on Monday we stopped in Brigham and it was the perfect evening for photos... A lesson I learned though is I need a bit wider lens. Anyway I love the Brigham Temple so I am glad to have had the chance to make a decent photo of it.

Adventures in Zion!

A couple of weeks ago I went South to Zion National Park for some Canyoneering and camping. It was a great trip! My GoPro got a lot of use. I have a video as well but I haven't edited it yet. Here are my favorite photographs from the trip though. Enjoy they awesomeness of Zions canyons. Just a note a lot of these were with my GoPro Hero 3 White edition so they don't have the range and sharpness on my DSLR so they are not perfect. Especially in a slot canyon where there is such contrasts.

A Taste of Zion

I went to Zion National Park last week for some canyoneering. It was epic! I have a ton of editing to do though so here is a photo to tide you over until I can get everything worked. By the way this was taken with my GoPro...

Alternate Worlds

I think of myself as an adventurer and explorer so sometimes I wish I could explore some crazy new world. The best I can do I suppose is to make pictures that fake it. Thus starts a new series. I am thinking Stargate here. Anyway who knows what kind of pictures will come from this but I have to start somewhere. So here is to a new project of Sci Fi and exploration.

JMT Color Series

I had some people ask for color versions of my black and white JMT photos and since I like color more I made this series! I hope you like them. It brought back a lot of good memories of backpacking the JMT I hope I can do it again some day.
